Have you been charged with criminal sexual conduct in the state of Minnesota? If so, it is important for you to understand just how serious these charges really are.

It is essential to have a MN criminal lawyer on your side that has experience with handling these types of cases. Since MN criminal law is so complex, and because new cases come up that can set new precedents, having a team of MN criminal attorneys on your side that is experienced in handling sexual misconduct cases is key to defending your case effectively.

According to MN criminal law, there are six different categories of sexual offense for which you may be charged. These include...

  • First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct
  • Second Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct
  • Third Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct
  • Fourth Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct
  • Fifth Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct
  • Criminal Sexual Predatory Conduct

In order to be charged with First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, MN criminal law states that "sexual penetration" must have taken place, as well as any of the following...

  • The victim is under 13 years of age and the defendant is more than 3 years older
  • The victim is 13, 14, or 15-years-old and the defendant is 4 years older and in a position of authority, which the defendant used to get the victim to submit
  • The victim is under the age of 16 and the defendant has a "significant other relationship" with the victim
  • The victim had reason to fear great bodily harm
  • A dangerous weapon was threatened or used during the act
  • The defendant caused personal injury to the victim
  • The defendant knew or had reason to know that the victim was mentally or physically impaired or helpless
  • The defendant aided an accomplice, who used force or coercion to engage in a sexual act

Since there are subtle differences between First Degree Sexual Conduct charges and the other types of sexual conduct charges, meet with a MN criminal lawyer who can explain the differences to you -- and who will do everything possible to get your charges reduced or possibly even dropped.

Work with a team of MN criminal attorneys who have the experience with sexual conduct cases you need.
