
Mr. Schafer brings over 15 years of criminal trial experience to Halberg Criminal Defense. Following graduation from law school in 1992, Mr. Schafer worked for judges in Winona and Wabasha counties. Upon his admission to the Bar in 1993, Mr. Schafer initially acted as an Assistant Pine and Scott County Attorney; prosecuting all levels of offenses from felonies to misdemeanors. Mr. Schafer also prepared and argued numerous appellate cases. In 1997, Mr. Schafer shifted his focus to defending those charged with criminal offenses throughout the state of Minnesota. He has defended over 2,100 individuals charged with all levels and types of criminal offenses. Mr. Schafer’s experience includes representation of individuals charged with homicide, criminal sexual conduct, burglary, drug offenses, assaults, extradition and DWI.
Mr. Schafer is a published author and frequent lecturer at Continuing Legal Education seminars. Mr. Schafer’s article on the right to pretest counsel in DWI cases appeared in the Hamline Law Review. Mr. Schafer’s CLE topics include felony DWI, search and seizure, property forfeitures and grand jury indictments.
